The Project.
To turn our three bedroom weatherboard into a four bedroom home, and to make the kitchen, living, dining and main bathroom bigger, while also not sacrificing any existing yard. The only way was up!
With some clever design, we consumed the existing (and unused) alfresco in the new floorplan which allowed us to considerably size up our kitchen. The new level meant a spacious new master suite, with the stairs concealing a tonne of new storage space cleverly tucked underneath.
We approached local Geelong builder Arca Build to design, build and project manage the entire renovation. The design phase was 18 months, and the construction was 12 months (we moved out during this period). Our site supervisor had excellent attention to detail and kept us in the loop - giving us every opportunity to have a say or tweak something along the way. We had the most incredible experience and can't speak highly enough of them. This is not a sponsored post, just a genuine shout out to an excellent local business who turned our beloved little house into our dream home.

Entrance.
The biggest difference here is there is a new doorway to the front bedroom. The rest is just an aesthetic glow up! New flooring, paint, light fittings and of course the glorious new front door. New door hardware by Iver and door painted Dulux Rustic Wagon.

Kitchen.
We didn't want to extend the home into the yard, so instead we consumed the existing outdoor terrace into the new footprint of the home. The kitchen was then moved to this side of home.

Dining.
We knocked out the existing kitchen (and laundry behind it). Relocated dining to this position and put in large French doors to take advantage of natural light on north side. The existing lounge became the new stairway to new level with linen cupboard underneath and laundry tucked behind on south side of home.

Living.
The existing dining/kitchen became the new living area.

Main Bathroom.
We extended the main bathroom to the hallway. The doors to the neighbouring rooms needed to be relocated and it was well worth it. The main bathroom now has a separate shower and bath as well as a toilet, and a whole lot more storage. We liked the built in bath for cleanliness, and having it behind the shower screen means we don't have to worry about kids splashing around in the bath as it is designed to be a wet area.

Exterior.
This angle is where you'll see the outdoor terrace being consumed into the new footprint of the home - it was absolutely worth it to have a life-changing amount of space to live in now.
French doors were added across the entire back of the home, and when they are all opened up it makes the kitchen and living feel outdoors. We kept the new back terrace small so we didn't sacrifice any backyard. Large external blinds are concealed in the timber frames of terrace, which keep the home cool and filter the sun on the west side. The second level contains the master bedroom, walk in robe and ensuite, as well as a private lounge area.
